Big Ride Glacier 2007
Click here for route map and description
What appealed to me the most about this ride was the number of people I know from Big Ride Across America 2004 and Big Ride Pacific Coast 2006 that had signed up. I registered only a month before the ride, frantically trained, and then set out to join my friends on yet another great adventure. My only disappointment was that my friend Bruce was not able to join us, however I brought along a picture of his face to insert in to pictures so he could be there vicariously. However, a highlight at the end of the trip was my 11-year-old son Liam joining me for the last overnight and last day ride into Whitefish on our tandem.
Big Ride Glacier traverses part of the routes of two rides that I have done before, Glacier to Calgary in 1996 (American Lung Association), and then Glacier to Banff (organized by Bruce and yours truly). I spent more time with my cycling partners and less time on the computer (definitely a good thing), so I did not keep a journal of daily experiences. However the several hundred pictures will remind me of the stories and events of the trip, and will serve as a lasting memory.
Here are the details...
Bicycle ride starting and ending in Whitefish, MT, looping through British Columbia and Alberta
375 miles in 7 days (July 8th to 14th)
Average 63 miles/day in 6 days of riding
Cross the Continental Divide twice (Crowsnest Pass in Alberta, and Logan Pass in Montana)
Total of 32 cyclists, each fundraising at least $1,500 for the American Lung Association of Washington
Total fundraising over $80,000
